At PlayCafe, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for families of all abilities. We aim to make our space accessible and enjoyable for everyone, while recognising that individual needs can vary.

This statement outlines the accessibility features currently available at PlayCafe and how we support guests with additional needs.

If you have any questions before your visit or would like to discuss specific access needs, please contact us in advance. We will always do our best to support you within the practical limits of our space and staffing.

Parking and Arrival

Bury St Edmunds offers several accessible parking options, including Blue Badge parking and car parks with lift access. Further information is available via West Suffolk Council.

  • Nearest car park: Cornhill Car Park (accessible)

  • Entrance: Slightly raised step on entering. Step-free inside and suitable for wheelchairs and prams

Please let us know in the booking notes if you require wheelchair access.

Entrances and Layout

  • Slightly raised step on main entrance

  • Single-level venue throughout

  • Non-slip flooring in the café and play areas

Our layout is designed to allow easy movement for wheelchairs, prams, and mobility aids, though during busy sessions space may feel more limited.

Mobility and Seating

  • PlayCafe is suitable for wheelchairs and prams

  • A mix of seating, including chairs without arms

  • Highchairs available

Toilets and Baby Facilities

  • Accessible toilet: Yes (with grab rails and emergency pull cord)

  • Baby changing: Available within the toilet

  • Nappy disposal bins: Provided

Please note that PlayCafe has one shared toilet facility, which may occasionally require short waiting times during busy periods.

Neurodivergent & Sensory-Friendly Considerations

We aim to maintain a calm and welcoming atmosphere, including:

  • Moderate noise levels

  • Reduced capacity

  • A low-stimulation corner/play area when possible

We can also offer a SEND-friendly sessions designed to provide a quieter and more relaxed environment.

While we aim to be sensory-considerate, PlayCafe is a shared family space and may not always be completely quiet or free from sensory stimuli. Please contact us for more information.

Assistance Dogs

Registered assistance dogs are welcome at PlayCafe.

For the comfort of all guests, dogs must remain under control at all times. We may ask for identification where appropriate.

Allergy & Dietary Needs

We offer a selection of snacks and drinks, including options suitable for a range of dietary requirements.

  • Please inform a member of the team of any allergies or intolerances.

  • We offer a variety of dietary options please tell us about allergies before ordering.

  • A full allergen chart is available at the counter.

While we take care with ingredient information, PlayCafe is not an allergen-free environment.

Support from Our Staff

Our team is trained to provide respectful, inclusive support and is happy to help with:

  • Navigating the space

  • Providing verbal or written information

  • Adjusting seating or play arrangements where possible
